Lacrosse Crosslace Length Guide
Share
Every stringer has been there. You've got a 10-yard bundle of crosslace, you need to attach a Valkyrie runner to the sidewall, and now you're staring down a decision that feels harder than it should be: how much do I cut?
Cut too long and you've wasted string you'll never use. Cut too short and the strand's useless — into the scrap pile it goes. So instead you burn through way more than you needed, or worse, use the whole bundle on a single segment just to be safe.
It's one of the most frustrating parts of learning to string, and it's almost never talked about. That's exactly why we put this guide together.
At Stringers Society, our crosslace is sold in the specific lengths we actually use for each pocket type. No more guessing. No more odd scraps. Just the right strand for the right job — every time.
36-Inch Crosslace Strands
This is our most-used length at Stringers Society. If you're attaching a runner to the sidewall, a 36-inch strand is almost always what you need.
Used for:
- Armor Mesh Valkyrie pockets (runner attachment)
- STX Lock pockets (runner attachment)
- Gait Flex Mesh outside row (runner attachment)
- StringKing Tech Trad (runner attachment)
- Any single row on a traditionally strung pocket
Quick note: if you feel like you need longer than 36 inches for any of these pockets, the issue usually isn't the length — it's the technique. Make sure you're tying the pocket tight enough and breaking the pocket in with a pocket pounder before assuming you need more string.
54-Inch Crosslace Strands
Some stringers use a 54-inch strand to attach the runners listed above, but that's overkill and you're just burning string. The 54-inch strand has one specific job.
Used for:
- Pita pocket center track — two colors running down the middle
If you're running a two-color pita, this is your length. Save the 36s for runner attachment. If you have other use cases for the 54 inch crosslace strands then let us know!
72-Inch Crosslace Strands
The 72-inch strand is your go-to for center tracks on popular DIY mesh pockets and longer traditional rows.
Used for:
- DIY Gait Flex Mesh center track (x2)
- DIY STX Lock Pocket center track (x2)
- DIY Tech Trad center track (x2)
- Men's 6 Diamond / 8 Diamond extended traditional pocket rows
- Single-color Pita pocket center track
This length comes up a lot when you're building a pocket from scratch rather than attaching to a pre-made runner system.
108-Inch Crosslace Strands
The 108-inch strand covers more involved traditional setups and specific mesh configurations.
Used for:
- Certain DIY Rock-It pocket center tracks and outside rows
- Shook Shakedown (two 108-inch strands)
- Single rows in traditional wooden lacrosse sticks
- Outside to O-channel traditional pockets
- Single rows on goalie tracks
If you're stringing a wooden stick or going deep into traditional goalie work, this is the length you'll reach for.
216-Inch Crosslace Strands
The big one. The 216-inch strand is for full single-string traditional pockets where one continuous piece of crosslace handles the whole pocket.
Used for:
- Single-string traditional pockets on box woodies
- Single-string traditional pockets on field woodies
- Single-string traditional pockets on men's modern heads
Stop Guessing, Start Stringing
The whole point of selling crosslace at the lengths we actually use is to take the math and the waste out of the equation. You show up to a project knowing exactly which strand to grab. No ruler, no scraps, no frustration.
Rather leave the stringing to someone who already has every length on the shelf? We offer professional stringing with 24-hour turnaround.
