What Are Bread Laces?
Bread Laces are elastic shoelaces that stretch when you slide your foot in, then snap back to hold your shoe securely — no tying required. They look like normal laces, install in minutes, and work with most shoe styles.
The concept is simple: replace your regular laces with elastic ones, tie them once during setup, and never think about them again. Your shoes become slip-ons that look completely normal to everyone else.
They're not the first elastic lace on the market, but Bread has put real thought into the materials, tension, and how they actually look on the shoe. They don't scream "I gave up on laces" — they look clean and intentional.
How We Partnered with Bread
Honestly — I was skeptical. Elastic shoelaces felt like something aimed at toddlers or people who couldn't be bothered. Then Nicholas Prentiss, the founder of Bread Laces, reached out and wanted to partner with the Stringers Lacrosse Shop.
He sent a few pairs over and I figured I'd give them a fair shot. That was the last time I tied my shoes.
"I've been tying laces since I was a kid and never thought twice about it. After one week with Bread Laces, going back to regular laces felt like a downgrade. I haven't tied my shoes since the day I put them on."
The thing that surprised me most was how normal they look. I expected them to look stretchy and weird — instead they sit flush on the shoe the same way regular flat laces do. Nobody would know unless you told them.
What I Like & Don't Like
- Genuinely simplifies your routine. Slip-on convenience without changing how your shoes look.
- Look like normal laces. Flat profile, clean finish — no one will know they're elastic.
- One-time setup. Tie them once during installation. That's it. Done.
- Works with most shoes. Nike, Adidas, Converse, Jordan, New Balance, Vans, and more.
- 16+ colors available. Something for every shoe in your rotation.
- Sizing matters. You need to pick the right length for your specific shoe model — see the size guide below.
How to Install Bread Laces
Installation is straightforward and takes about five minutes the first time. Here's the process:
- Place your foot in the unlaced shoe. This is how you'll set the tension — with your foot actually in the shoe so the laces stretch to the right length.
- Lace with Bread Laces. Thread them the same way you would regular laces.
- Test the fit. Take the shoe off and put it back on, leaving it untied. It should slide on comfortably without being too loose.
- Tie the laces. Tie them once, tuck the ends if needed, and you're done for good.
The key is lacing them while your foot is inside the shoe so the tension is set correctly from the start. Do it with the shoe empty and they'll be too tight.

Bread Laces FAQ
Bread Laces are elastic shoelaces that stretch when you slide your foot into the shoe, then snap back to hold the shoe snugly in place. You set the tension once during installation by lacing them with your foot inside the shoe — after that, you never need to tie them again.
Sizing depends on your specific shoe model. Most low-top sneakers (Nike Dunk Low, Adidas Samba, New Balance 550) take 36" laces. Mid and high-top styles typically need 45"–63". See the size guide table above for common models, or check the Bread size guide for the full list.
Yes — that's one of the things that surprised me most. Bread Laces are flat and sit on the shoe the same way regular laces do. Unless someone knows what to look for, they won't be able to tell the difference.
Most colors are $9.99 per pair at the Stringers Lacrosse Shop. Round Locks start at $10.99. Shop all Bread Laces colors here.
